On Friday (22 May) a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Airbus A320 came down in a residential area just short of the runway at Karachi Airport.

Local health authorities confirmed 97 deaths and two survivors.

The pilot had reported a technical fault after one failed overshoot, according local media, then issued a mayday call as the aircraft was on ‘finals’.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. The aircraft was 15 years old and had logged around 47,100 flight hours and 25,860 flight cycles as of today. It was powered by CFM56-5B4/P engines.
