It is the general policy of BTN not to report on hotel news more than six months ahead.  Business travellers are for the most part not that forward thinking.  However with a dearth news in the sector we have produced a short roundup.

Travelodge is currently operating just under 50 of its hotels in critical locations across the UK.  Within these hotels, the company has installed perspex screens, 2m taping in the reception area and placed social distance and safety signage within the public areas.

Premier Inn has announced a shake-up of its room rate products in the light of uncertainty caused by the coronavirus crisis.  The group said that two new rate choices will give “added flexibility to guests making future post-lockdown travel plans, as well as those with existing bookings”.

A new Advanced Room Rate enables guests to amend their stay date up to 13:00 on the day of arrival, or to cancel up to 28 days in advance. The Semi-Flex Rate has also been relaunched, allowing guests to amend their stay date up to 13:00 on the day of arrival, or to cancel up to three days in advance (instead of the previous 14 days).

The existing Flex Rate allows amendments or cancellations up to 13:00 on the day of arrival, while the Non Flex Rate does not allow any amendments.

But in what Premier Inn says it believes to be “an industry first”, all existing Non Flex reservations are being transferred into Advance bookings, and all existing Semi-Flex reservations will now benefit from the new cancellation policy detailed above.

It stressed that the majority of its hotels are currently closed to all but key workers, and will remain so “until it is safe to re-open in line with government advice”, with bookings currently being taken from the end of May.

The Arora Group has been awarded the project to plan and develop a hotel led mixed use development scheme on prime riverfront land in the heart of Staines Town Centre just 4mi from Heathrow.

The project will consist of an upscale 4-star international branded hotel operated by the Arora Group with over 300 bedrooms including serviced apartments, spa and leisure facilities and meetings and events space including a ballroom. Additionally, there will be over 200 residential apartments.
