In May 1964 British European Airways inaugurated the world’s first scheduled helicopter service between Penzance and St Marys on the Isles of Scilly.

Today its successor, Penzance Helicopters Ltd, post pandemic, is very much in business, flown by Sloane Helicopters Ltd, Britain’s longest established rotary wing operator.

In 2015, Sloane entered into agreement with Tresco Estates to provide helicopter services between Penzance and the Isles of Scilly.

Following successful planning application, a heliport was built close to the site of the previous service. Sloane flies an AW139 helicopter configured for offshore operations flying up to 17 flights a day to the main island and also Tresco.

Flying all year round, and with a flight time of just 15 minutes, it provides a unique and fast flight to the islands.

A new dedicated AW139 will enter service shortly following its transfer to the UK registered G-PNZH, having been delivered from the USA.

Sloane Helicopters also flies on behalf of RAF 32 (Royal Squadron) an AW109SP helicopter.  The contract, which was recently extended, has been held by the company for a number of years.
