Driving to or from Cornwall & Devon, the Ibis Bridgwater is more a 4-star hotel than 3-star, and also offers 24hr room service via an app.  From London 150 miles and St Ives 140 miles, it is an oasis from one of Britain’s busiest motorways (described by your Editor as “horrid” on a Friday afternoon southbound).

First reported in BTN 5 April Ibis Bridgwater. Also see Ibis expands in UK in this week's BTN.

The hotel looks impressive and contemporary on the outside with plenty of parking, but is on an industrial estate one mile from the motorway.  It is the first UK property to be built in the new Ibis Plaza style, a refreshing and fashionable design.

The 144 bedrooms offer Chromecast plasma televisions, power showers, superfast wi-fi.  There are 16 interconnecting rooms and eight larger ones for disabled use.

The difference between 3- and 4-star comes down to the lack of in-room phone facilities, no trouser press, safe and refrigerator.

There are two function rooms located on the ground floor which can be used for business meetings or private dining.  The rooms can be combined to make a larger space.  Keepers Kitchen & Bar champions Somerset produce with some local suppliers being incorporated into the menu, beer and cocktails.

Guests can download the menu via the QR code located on the room key card and pre-order breakfast although a written menu is offered on arrival for the restaurant, room service or a quick departure package.

Ibis Bridgwater is hosting live music events on a Friday from time to time with details on the hotel website showcasing some of the best new talent from Somerset and the surrounding counties.
