Boeing Commercial Airplanes has delivered the first of 180 737 MAX ordered by Ryanair in a 9hr non-stop journey from Seattle to Dublin.

“We are delighted to take delivery of our first new technology 'gamechanger' aircraft,” Michael O'Leary, Group Chief Executive, Ryanair, said in an emailed statement.

The Ryanair Group plans to receive 12 Boeing 737 MAX this summer, with six delivered in Ryanair colours itself and in Malta Air colours, the airline being a partnership between the listed carrier and the Government of Malta.  The MAX fleet should be up to 50 by this time next year.

Ryanair was initially due to take delivery of its first MAX two years ago before the jet was grounded for 20 months after two fatal crashes.

As of May 2021, unfilled orders for the 737 MAX stood at 3,967 and 486 aircraft had been delivered. Airlines are reporting a 15% reduction in fuel consumption.
