According to OAG an eighth consecutive week of capacity growth to 63.2m seats worldwide, the highest point for over a year, is an indication of a slow but steady recovery in capacity in many markets around the world.

But OAG also points out that no two markets are at the same stage in their Covid-19 situation and a few continue to show reductions in capacity.  In its weekly report the Luton-based data analyst says that this highlights the “stop, start” nature of the market; with the remark that “perhaps some traffic lights might help in the recovery!”

Despite the modest week-on-week capacity growth of 1.1m seats (+1.8%) airlines currently appear to remain cautious.  However, by August an additional 14m seats will have been added suggesting a holiday stampede of demand and perhaps full flights returning.
