It is all change at Southend Airport with owner Stobart Group becoming Esken and chief executive Warwick Brady moving on.

The airport remains open for cargo, engineering and general aviation activities.

Synonymous with the trucking company the change of name was inevitable at some point, the ‘Eddie Stobart’ and ‘Stobart’ trademarks sold to Eddie Stobart Logistics, in May 2020 for £10m.  

An announcement of the sale of Stobart Air, its Ireland-based regional airline, is expected by the end of February.  Stobart Air, having lost out to Emerald Airlines, still a paper carrier, for the IAG/Aer Lingus regional operation.  Esken describes itself as British infrastructure, aviation and renewable energy company.

Scottish lawyer and businessman David Shearer will take on the role of executive chair for the interim.

At the same time Swissport International AG has appointed Warwick Brady, currently CEO of Elsken Ltd, as President & CEO. He joins in the Spring replacing Christoph Mueller, who is acting in an interim capacity.  Swissport was active at 269 airports in 47 countries on six continents at the end of 2020.  It also operates the Aspire lounges. Prior to his CEO role at the then Stobart since 2017, Brady was chief operating officer at easyJet for nearly eight years.
