The grim situation for British Airways, and reflected by all European airlines, is demonstrated by some figures obtained from within the airline by Head for Points, a frequent flyer information source.

On Sunday 7 February across the whole day, BA operated 43 passenger aircraft arrivals, 41 passenger aircraft departures, 15 cargo-only arrivals, 18 cargo-only departures.  Long-haul departures gave a 33% load factor whilst short-haul departures were 76% full. This does not account for no-shows and therefore the actual number of people travelling would have been lower.

The figures for last week are not known but with people trying to get back in time to meet today’s virtual clampdown, a short-term increase in passenger numbers would have been expected.

The BA press office declined to comment.  BTN welcomes any further discreet information to info@btnews.co.uk.
