A hearing is scheduled today (25 January 09:30 CET) by the Transport Committee of the European Parliament who has summoned the executive director of its civil aviation agency EASA to answer questions regarding the anticipated recertification of the Boeing 737 MAX.

EASA grounded the MAX two days after a crash in Ethiopia 10 March 2019 and a previous disaster for Lion Air of Indonesia 29 October 2018.  In total 346 people were killed.

Patrick Ky, EASA’s executive director, was called to the meeting to urgently report on the recertification procedure for the Boeing 737 MAX after he announced last week that the plane would likely be allowed back into service once certain modifications had been made per unit.

Boeing has received more than 5,000 orders for the MAX series with around 350 delivered. Southwest Airlines in the US is the largest operator, with 250 in the fleet or on order. Other operators include Ryanair with 135, Norwegian Air Shuttle 110, American Airlines 100, Turkish Airlines 65 and China Southern 50.
