British airline and airport operations will essentially come to a halt until the end of the English Lockdown.  BTN has the details.

Travellers are strongly advised to check with their airlines before leaving for the airport.  BTN reiterates its recent plea for a Minister for Travel to help co-ordinate the various government departments involved. (See BTN 26 October.)

From Wednesday (11 November) Manchester Airport will only operate out of T1, and Cornwall-Newquay Airport is closed.  Teesside Airport will only be open Monday to Friday with very limited services to Aberdeen and Belfast City.  London City Airport operated just a single flight on Saturday (7 November), a KLM return from Amsterdam.

Although there is no official news on the BA press site, the national airline has again closed its Gatwick operation.  T5 services at Heathrow have been culled and a check should be made before travelling to the airport.

Virgin Atlantic has put out a statement: “While we have reduced our passenger flying schedule, we’ll continue to serve many of Virgin Atlantic’s destinations on a reduced frequency and provide vital international connectivity from London Heathrow Terminal 2 for customers that need to fly, including journeys permitted for work, education or other legally permitted reasons. We’ll also continue to build on the success of our cargo-only operations, helping to keep global supply chains moving.”

Whilst easyJet has celebrated the introduction of Berlin International Airport and its arrival in the main terminal, elsewhere the news has not been so good. It will operate only 20% of its normal winter schedule but details are vague at this point of time for the Christmas holiday period.

KLM has announced that flights to Amsterdam from Cardiff, Inverness, Teesside and Southampton will be suspended until at least February. KLM retains a presence at 13 other UK airports.

Jet2 has decided to shut completely. It will offer no flights from its English bases until 2 December. Services are due to return on 3 December.

Both Channel Islands airlines, Aurigny and Blue Islands continue with limited flights into Southampton, and in Scotland Loganair has a reduced operation.  Aberdeen remains fully operational due to its offshore commitments.

Readers are advised to check with the individual major airports regarding their opening hours and facilities available.
