Two of Britain’s smallest airlines have got together to create a relationship strengthening their own position and financially benefiting the public.

Effectively the State airline of Guernsey, Aurigny (it is 100% Government property), has got together with Eastern Airways, the privately-owned Humberside-based carrier, to create through routes via Southampton Airport.

Customers bound for Guernsey on Eastern from Aberdeen, Belfast, Dublin, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Teesside can now book a through ticket and not pay APD twice, that is 2 x £13 for the trip.  It works in the other direction for the return journey as well.  Luggage is transferred to final destination.

Tony Burgess, Managing Director, Eastern Airways, added: “We are delighted to announce and excited to commence this partnership with our friends at Aurigny, which will allow us to collectively provide greater connectivity focussed initially on our Southampton Airport hub.”

Aurigny’s Commercial Director, Malcolm Coupar, was just as enthusiastic:  “This is great news for our customers as it is often a challenge in small market jurisdictions to offer the regional connectivity desired by all as demand does not justify direct flights. By teaming up with Eastern we are able to provide our customers with more regional choice out of Southampton and other UK points in the future.”
