Your Editor-in-Chief passed through Heathrow T2, the Elizabeth Terminal, last Monday.  Here is his judgement.

“I took the Heathrow Express (HEX) from Paddington, which is now an every 30min service taking just 15min, somewhat of an improvement on the tedious Piccadilly line’s 55min from Leicester Square.  TfL Rail does the same journey in 30min if you can find the platform (11) at Paddington and has useful suburban stops at Acton Main Line, Ealing Broadway, West Ealing, Hanwell, Southall and Hayes.  Prices as per the Underground and approx. every 15min.  It was a face mask all the way, except eating at Pret airside. Costa was open landside.

T2 is a long walk from the station, fine for T3, but that is currently closed.  Part of the moving walkway was not open.  It was then up the escalator (or lift) to the top floor departures area, careful to follow the one-way system, but plenty of LHR helpers to assist.  I checked in manually, the Eastern Airways desk proudly visible, and was warned to take my mask off for image purposes when first going airside.  The terminal was busier than expected.

Nothing special through the centrally positioned security area except plenty of opportunities to sanitise. It was quick.

The only public executive lounge now open is Plaza Premium but that is busy with client airlines and should be pre-booked.

There are now plenty of shops open included the aforementioned Pret.  The Heathrow web site keeps up to date and is the best place for information prior to travelling.  Once in T2 you will not go hungry, and the selection of outlets open is very good.
