Gatwick’s North Terminal is again the home for British Airways at the South London airport.

But readers, and travellers, should not get too excited.  The airline is currently only offering a single daily flight to the Caribbean.

The 45 European short-haul destinations that were transferred to Heathrow are now set to return from 9 November with varying degrees of frequency but the situation remains fluid and very much depends on government decisions and Foreign Office official advice which will affect the legality of refunds and insurance claims.

The date choice is a strange one too.

Traditionally most airlines consider midnight on the last Saturday in October (in fact technically 02:00 Sunday morning 25 October) as the changeover date for summer and winter timetables which is also the day the clocks change in Europe and many parts of the world except the United States, where the clocks go back on 1 November.

There is still no decision on the ‘use it or lose it’ rules for airport take-off and landing slots which will be a factor.
