On Friday 12 August Norse introduced a daily two-class Boeing Dreamliner service between Gatwick and New York Kennedy (JFK).

It was technically a ‘fifth freedom’ operation, the aircraft originating in Oslo.

Norse Atlantic Airways, a British-registered company, has now been licensed by the UK Civil Aviation Authority with an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) allowing the company to begin flights from the United Kingdom under its own licence.

“The United Kingdom will be a vital part of our network going forward and the granting of an AOC and Operating Licence by the UK Civil Aviation Authority to Norse Atlantic will provide further choice and affordable prices to consumers and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic. We are proud to be employing local pilots and cabin crew at our London Gatwick base and have established close working relationships with the British pilot union BALPA, the cabin crew union Unite and the American cabin crew union AFA. We look forward to ramping up our operations between London and the US ready for our Summer 2023 schedule,” said Bjorn Tore Larsen, CEO, Norse Atlantic Airways.

For the present Norse ia operating the single rotation to both JFK and Oslo, but will introduce a whole series of North American destinations from the start of the summer season at the end of March 2023.  Both Travel News Update (TNU) and Head for Points (HfP) will cover in the forthcoming months.
