The highly visible and personable Robert Courts is no longer UK Minister of Aviation and follows Grant Shapps out of the Department for Transport (DfT) as new Prime Minister Lizz Truss sweeps away the old guard.

Following the appointment of Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP to a Cabinet position as Secretary of State for Transport, Baroness Vere takes on aviation and local transport.  (See BTN 12 September COMMENT: A new Transport Minister.)

Although a member of the House Lords Charlotte Vere has been a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the DfT since 2019 overseeing roads, motoring agencies, the DVLA, buses and taxis, light rail and devolution.  Very active within the Conservative party she was raised to the Lords by David Cameron in 2016 Prime Minister's Resignation Honours List.

Beneath her, Lucy Frazer, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, has moved from the Treasury to join the DfT as a Minister.

Frazer, formerly Financial Secretary, Solicitor General and – briefly – a Junior Minister for Prisons, joins Torbay MP Kevin Foster, who will oversee rail.

As one Westminster veteran put it.  “All this seems like a change of the party in power rather than a government reshuffle, which it is”.
