Head for Points (HfP) reports Rwandair is likely to be making an application to join the oneworld airline alliance.

Founded in 2003 and headquartered at Kigali International Airport, the airline operates a 12-strong fleet including a pair of long-range Airbus A330, six Boeing 737 series, two Bombardier CRJ and also from Canada two de Havilland Dash 8-400.

Although still a small airline with a limited route network, Rwanda’s location in Central Africa makes it a convenient spot to connect to other Central and Southern African cities.  From Kigali it flies three times per week to Heathrow.

RwandAir CEO Yvonne Makolo gave public statements at the 6th African Aviation Summit in Kigali last week.

“We are exploring the possibility of entering the oneworld alliance. This would be a perfect fit for RwandAir and help us forge closer ties with like-minded airline partners overseas”.
