The news concerning BTN’s future was published last week but is recapped here for readers who may have missed the announcement.  The new owner/Editor Rob Burgess will explain details in the issue of Monday 3 October.

Head for Points (HfP), the UK’s largest frequent flyer and business travel website, has acquired the assets of Business Travel News from its retiring owner and Editor-in-Chief, Malcom Ginsberg.

Business Travel News, originally Air & Business Travel News (ABTN), was founded by the late pioneering travel industry journalist John Pointer in the 1970s as a travel trade tabloid published once a fortnight.

Malcolm Ginsberg, previously a public relations consultant specialising in motoring and travel, and publisher of the Flight International Directory series, purchased the title in 1992, later turning it into a weekly newsletter delivered via fax machines.  He has written the official history of LONDON CITY AIRPORT – 30 Years Serving the Capital.

With the advent of the internet, Business Travel News became an email newsletter publication and the ‘first read’ on a Monday morning.

Rob Burgess, founder and Editor of Head for Points, said: “Malcolm is a legend in UK business travel journalism, with the most impressive contact list I have ever seen.  As he reaches his 80th birthday, we are happy to take over responsibility for sending his subscribers their regular Monday morning dose of travel news, drawn from our own content”.

On Monday 7 November the first “Travel News Update by BTN” will be published (TNU).  It promises to be an interesting new approach to travel journalism and should not be missed.  It will be available on both the BTN & TNU websites.

Business Travel News is not related to the US publication of the same name or its UK offshoot Business Travel News Europe.
