Japan is lifting its requirement for negative Covid-19 tests for fully vaccinated travellers.

From this week (7 September), fully vaccinated travellers will no longer need proof of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure to enter the country.

Fully vaccinated travellers are defined as those who have received three doses of the vaccine.

At the same time it looks as though the daily limit on tourists visiting the country may rise from 20,000 to 50,000 this month according to local media.

Japan reopened to tourists in June, although there are still strict restrictions in place, including the requirement for travellers to be part of a package tour, the obligation to buy medical insurance and the need to wear masks in all public places.

The World Travel and Tourism Council revealed a few weeks ago that it is expected Japan’s travel and tourism sector could reach near pre-pandemic levels next year.
